GWRJ Class Rubric
Article Format: (these are all pretty mandatory points):
· A hybrid genre (with close analysis, it’s possible to see evidence of lots of other genres in the texts; aka “a genre on the move”)
· Title
· Abstract
· Paragraph format
· Attention getter
· Visual Element
· Headings (optional)
· 3-5 pages, 12 pnt font
Audience: (mandatory point)
· Writers
Topic/Genre: (these are optional examples of what you can write about)
· Huge range of genres to work with; very open
· Often personal narratives, but they can take many other forms
· Usually one specific thing/event/etc.
· May be a theoretical concept
· May be someone else’s personal experience
Language: (these are optional and may be changed for your own article)
· Informal: “I,” contractions, exclamation points, etc.
· Often personal
· Specific jargon used (i.e. science)
· Simple vocabulary, easy flow
· Can directly address your audience: Breaking the fourth wall
Content: (you’ll only use some of these points)
· These are not “success” stories (but they also don’t have to be “failure”)
· Aimed at readers and their wants/usability
· Focuses on exploration more than on expertise
· Uses concrete examples of writing in progress
· Personal/life experiences
· Learning taking place
· Look beyond general knowledge/experience to understand writing at a deeper level
· Quotations/interviews
Citations/Research (you’ll want to somehow cite your research; how you do it is up to you)
· Use other genres as means of researching their genre for the journal
· Different ways to cite things, though you may not need any citations
· Talking to others, MLA, APA, end notes
· You are also free to create your own citation system
Visual Elements (at least one visual element is mandatory)
· There needs to be at least one visual element to your article
· Must be relevant to article/topic/genre/etc.
· Screen/webshots
· Pictures
· Checklist
· Charts
