Monday, February 6

Today, we went over a wide range of topics that could be relevant for your news article:
  • Audience/information placement: Consider not only "who" or audience is but "how" they read a particular piece. This where, in news for example, the inverted pyramid comes in. This, essentially, upside down triangle means that some of the most relevant information is on the top as people generally do not read news articles in their entireties.
  • Sourcing: This covers two different issues. In the first, one does not cite sources in newspaper articles the way one may cite in an academic article. Consider how quotations are used, how tense is used with these, etc. Also, I will want both the name of the person as well as his or her phone number when you turn in your final project.
  • Interviewing: The bulk of class was spent on this topic. Take a look at the blog entry below this to get a better idea on whom/how to interview for your articles.
I will look at the final rubrics you posted by hopefully tonight and your learning blogs by tomorrow. This Friday, you will get a work day, so come prepared to write/work/etc. Next Monday, your rough drafts are due, and the final projects are due the following Friday. Happy writing!
